of Defence, Ulster University, the Northern
Ireland Ambulance Service, Leadership Centre

Showing how AHPs can push boundaries
A day conference for allied health professionals working in Trusts in Northern Ireland is being held on
26 June at the Ulster University Magee Campus, Londonderry. It is organised by Professor Michelle
Tennyson, CAHPO, and her team at the Department of Health, and hosted by the University.
With the theme of Pushing Boundaries: redefining
possibilities in health and social care, the
programme is being finalised but promises to be an
inspiring day with a line-up of prestigious speakers.
Participation is being organised through the Trusts,
free of charge to AHPs employed by the Trusts.
It is also a great opportunity for professional bodies
and other organisations in the AHP world to meet
participants by taking a stand. This comes with two
conference places.

NI healthcare scientists grow their network
The Healthcare Science Steering group in NI has now expanded with membership becoming more diverse
as they work towards being able to represent all the healthcare science workforce in NI.
Sinead Fitzpatrick, chair, says: ‘We had an extremely
successful Healthcare Science Week with many
colleagues using the launch of our new social
media channels to promote and showcase the
fundamental role, we, as healthcare scientists
contribute to patient pathways.
‘We hope these online platforms will serve us well
in extending our voice and goals to healthcare
scientists regionally and nationally.’
Colleagues have met with the organisers of the
Advancing Healthcare Awards and continue to
liaise with the Academy for Healthcare Science.
Their aim is to enhance visibility and also create
awareness of how healthcare scientists in NI can
nominate colleagues for the various categories of
the Advancing Healthcare Awards.
Sinead explains: ‘ We have formalised the group and
set clear objectives. We aim to advocate on behalf
of the healthcare science workforce to enable the
delivery of the provision of safe, streamlined and
holistic care pathways for patients.’
The deputy chair is Aisling Haughey and secretary,
Martina Burns. Group members represent each
of the five acute Trusts in NI and each of the
professional groups. Follow the group on LinkedIn,
X and Facebook under Healthcare Science NI. The
email is hcssgni@gmail.com.
